If I sell to a fellow in England and do not have a paypal account what is the best way to get paid?

Cash.
Make him do the leg work though. He goes down to his bank, orders US dollars. He mails them to you via insured post (for whatever the cash value is).
He could also do an international money order, but those get pricey.

+1 bank wire. I sold a $4700 Rolex using bank wire to a fellow in Europe. Transaction was flawless.
For international wires, you need the SWIFT code. Your bank can help you with that.
A bank wire cannot be reversed or cancelled (even a money order or cashiers check can be cancelled or "Stop pay").
I wouldn't even send cash to someone in the US let alone internationally.0 -

western union works but can be forged so don't ship till it clears your bank and they have verified funds are good 0 -

Bank wires cost money. Sometimes lots of money. There's the wire transfer fee, foreign currency exchange fee, receiving fee, percentage, etc. I know, I initiate them almost on a weekly basis for my job. Last one I did had about $125 in fees associated with it.
For a big ticket item, it's worth it.
For anything smaller, that's why I said cash.0 -

For Gun or some Gun related items, PayPal will freeze the funds and you may have to go through Legal channels to get the money, if ever at all!0 -
I had that happen to me when I sold my Browning Buckmark. They made me sign this paper that I would never do it again and I had to fax it back to them...I thought I was in grade school again. Maybe next time, they'll make me write "I will never use Paypal for any gun related items again" on the chalkboard 100 times.
I have drastically reduced my Paypal activity since this happened and only use it for payments.0 -
I forgot to add this in my precvious post but you can have the Buyer purchase and send you an International Money Order. These are good pretty much all over the world and you deposit it into your Bank account and wait for it to be cleared before shipping the item or items. It takes a little longer than a Bank transfer but is the cheapest route for getting the payment! 0 -
