k98 action binding
When I load the magazine up with 3 rounds and try to load it the top round gets hung up between the edge of the mag/receiver and the other round about half up forward and as it starts to enter the breech area. It take a little work depending on how hard I pushed to keep the round out. Ideas??

From your description it is trying to double feed? Two rounds with one stroke of the bolt, correct?
Or are you having trouble getting more than three rounds into the magazine?
If double feeding: I would first remove the barreled action from the stock to see if the bottom of the feed rails have any caked up crud. The feed rails may also have excessive wear or have been altered.
Post some pics of tha feed rails if you can.
If the problem is loading more than three: Pull the floor plate and spring/follower and check for built up crud and damage to the spring.0 -
The mauser is a control round feed. The extractor claw engages and takes control the rim as the round is being "feed up" from the magazine. The rounds must be placed in the magazine with their rim back far against the rear of the magazine. The claw/extractor must not be damaged and easily engage the rim and rotate freely, and not loose control of the rim. If these things are not correct the top round will not control feed and it could allow the second round to be dragged up into the feed path and jam. In a safe location, work the bolt slowly and quickly, pay attention to the claw extractor and rim, watch the second round as the top round is being feed. Assuming your ammo is loaded to correct measurements and the claw/extractor is not damaged and the spring and magazine follower is correct the only other likely source is crude in the magazine/receiver forward area. 0
