When you were using live ammo, did you put the first round directly into the chamber of the barrel, or did you 'cycle the action' to have the gun feed the first shell from the magazine? Also, if you 'dry fire' your Win 1300 twice in succession, does it do the exact same thing, i.e. after the second dry fire, the bolt stays locked up?

The mod 1300's are different than most pump guns. They use the recoil to 'help' open the action. I think you may be having a issue with the way you are working the slide. Try different loads and be aware that the firing starts the reloading process. Think like it's a 'semi-auto" pump. My 20 gauge 1300's react very different to lite loads vs. heavy loads.
I must "adjust" holding and cycling of the slide. Bob

When gun is unloaded it works fine. I loaded it from the mag ,first fired and woked fine second round bolt did not relese. When you say works like auto do you mean tighter hold and pull into shoulder harder?

It's hard to explain. When you fire it, the recoil will start to open the slide/action. You have to get a feel for it. It's more of letting your slide hand work with the slide. you either have to hold the slide from moving on the tube or move with it. Try some very light loads first. It is the fastest cycling pump ever made, but it is hard for a person used to a regular pump to cycle it without jamming. It is more of your slide hand doing right than your shoulder. Bob PS.. here is the owners booklet, read page 2 about the action openning. http://media.winchesterguns.com/pdf/om/model1300_manual_om_s.pdf

I have experienced issues in recent years (granted, this is mostly with Remington 870's, but the issue may be the same) with pump-guns. While counterintuative, I was using too lite a load with ALUMINUM bases. Fiocchi trap loads with the aluminum base would expand into the chamber walls and until the gun cooled a bit, manually operating the pump was fruitless. I went to the next level up on Fiocchi ammo (slightly thicker and taller on the base) and the issues always went away. It is my feeling that the low base aluminum stuff is nothing I would use if the birds were 'a flyin'....rather spend the extra dollat a box and get something that will reliably feed. Again, it sounds a little silly, but if you were using really low impulse stuff, try a little stouter.

Wildthing, Just curious as to where you are at regarding your problem. Were you using light aluminum/nickel bases like the promotional Federal brand shells available at Walmart? Have you tried higher quality shells with the longer bases (i.e. heavier loads), or tried shells with brass bases? If so, did the gun cycle and perform properly? I'm leaning with 1KYDSTR. I think that you may have a rough chamber that needs some polishing, or that your shell bases are too thin-walled and are 'over-expanding' within the chamber, and causing difficult extraction, especially if the chamber is rough. I'll bet your problem goes away with better quality ammo. Give us an update when you get a chance.

    wildthing,

From the link provided, take a close look at part #72 in your gun. It is a spring that runs the entire length of the receiver, and is held in place by a retainer, and phillips head screw, on the opposite side of the ejection port.

If the tab that retains this spring is cracked, or broken, it will allow the spring to "float" around, and lock the slide up. Mine failed about 5 years ago, with very similar symptoms.
