DOM ruger cylinder
Could a Ruger expert here help me out with this .22 Magnum cylinder. I've been getting
emails asking about it. It seems it is a little "odd". I think it is from about 1973??
Thanks, bob

I'm not an expert but I also have a single-six from the early 70's with a fluted mag. cylinder, that came with it. I have seen those without the flute and don't like their looks. I did buy this pistol new and the cylinder also came with a red draw string pouch. Do they question that they were made ? 0 -
Yes, One emailer said my cylinder could NOT be a magnum, because it has flutes !!! [:0] 0 -
Well he's dead wrong, sorry to say. You "do" have a Mag. cylinder ! 0 -
Both cylinders were fluted in the "Old Model" Single Six 3-screw convertibles. They gave you a chart to show you which cylinder was for which round.
You have a magnum cylinder. The 22lr cylinder had firing pin grooves.0 -
I, too, have a couple of magnum cylinders with flutes. (Also, one w/o.) 0 -
22LR on the left; 22WMR on the right.

My 1972 SS-6 Stainless has both cylinders fluted. 0 -
My wifes late fathers New Model Single Six also has both cylinders that are fluted. It was bought new in 1973 by my wifes step mother to match my wifes fathers Winchester model 61M pump rifle in 22 Mag.I have read several times over the years that the first few years of New Model Single Sixes had fluted cylinders like Old Model Single Sixes.

All Old Model Ruger Single Six cylinders are fluted, 22lr and 22mag.
EvilDr235 is also correct. The first of the New Models also had both cylinders fluted.
EvilDr235, if your early New Model has a 4-5/8" Stainless barrel, it is rare, only about 300 or less in that variation.0 -

DOM ruger cylinder: OM 22Mag cylinders 1959-1973
The first Ruger Single-Six with 22mag cylinders were made in 1959.
Ruger uses the SN of 150,000 or later as a Single-Six that can be fitted with a 22mag cylinder. All Ruger Single-Six guns later than that SN are fitted with the larger diameter 22mag barrels. Earlier SNs are fitted with the 22lr barrels.0 -
Thanks, I thought it was about 1972 or 73. The box of gun and fishing stuff it was in had a bunch of sale stubs from that period. Got a deal at an estate sale on boxes of 60's to 70's sporting goods. Large cardboard boxes {24 x 24 x 16 high} filled, I paid $20 for.
But before you all say what a deal, The sad part was the empty ammo boxes that were on the garage selves. .300win mag, .375H&H, .458win mag, .22hornet. I asked, "where are all the guns???"
The heirs just said, "guess grand dad gave them away". I felt like yelling BULL++++ !! Like so many estate sales I go to, The family rapes the homes before the will is read. Bob0
