The Blue Book lists a Rifle Carbine with 5000 made, but does not give any details.

There was a "rifle carbine" known as the "Philippine Constabulary Model" It consisted of a 22" carbine barrel fitted to a Model 1898 rifle stock with bayonet stud. However, if yours has a 30" rifle barrel with a carbine half-stock, it's either a parts gun or the stock has been cut. Pictures would really help. Also, what is your serial number and are there any inspector's cartouches on the stock? Does it have a sling bar and saddle ring?

The sling bar was discontined before the 1898 model. Serial 214 thousand range. Mine has not been cut down, it is regular carbine wood and carbine marked sight, only cartouche is 2 letters on bottom behind trigger guard. If it had full rifle wood at one time would there be any marks or cuts where the longer wood and attachments would have been?

That's incorrect. The Model 1898 carbine definitely had a sling bar and saddle ring. It was discontinued for the Model 1899. If it's not cut out for a sling bar, it's either a Model 1899 carbine stock or a cut down Model 1898 rifle stock. Your serial number indicates 1899 manufacture.

The cartouches would be on the left side of the wood beneath the receiver and would consist of inspector's initials and the year. There would have been no cartouches on the forearm. It may have been something put together by Bannerman's as a "sporter".
