I have a model 64 built in l953. If it would have had a factory lyman sight would it be a 56 or a 66a.

Your description (checkering) indicates that your model 64 is the deluxe version also call the Model 64 "Deer Rifle".Pistol grip cap and sling swivels are also options you should have over the standard rifle. These are significantly higher in value than the standard sporting version depicted in these auctions."Excellent" condition is too broad a term for any kind of verbal appraisal and could range substantially from low to high on other issues. You could buy a vintage Winchester 22 series open buckhorn rear sight and replace the redfield peep and retain more originality.Increase in value would probably offset the cost of the sight. Serial number is about 1954. These are serialized with the model 94.Check the following GB link for more on a survey including model 64 data.Perhaps you could participate.

    Hello brute,

The graded condition is very important to the value, but so is the specific configuration. From your description, the gun in question is a Deer Rifle versus a standard Sporting Rifle (as the two rifles are in the links Henry provided). Typically, the Deer Rifle variation is worth a minimum of 150% of the Sporting Rifle value.

The receiver mounted Redfield peep sight is not really an "aftermarket" item, nor will it detract from the value. Winchester factory drilled & tapped the receivers for a peep sight starting in late 1933. Of the (535) Model 64s I have surveyed, (487) of them are factory drilled & tapped for a receiver peep sight. Winchester used Lyman, Redfield, and Williams peep sights when ordered.

I would like to know if the front sight hood is the same as the one on Win 94, I'm interested in one Model 64 and the seller want $400 for it but the gun doesn't have the hood.

$400.00 would be a steal with or without the sight hood !
