Original Winchester 71 Deluxe???

On the auction side there is 2 or 3 Winchester Deluxe 71's that have Winchester recoil pads that they say are original. I thought all winchers 71's came with steel butt plates, with the point on the top that is inletted into stock. Did some early 71's come with pads? Thanks for any info you have!

    Yes, some Model 71 rifle were special ordered with the solid red recoil pad. Winchester introduced the solid red rubber recoil pads in the early 1920s, and they were always listed as a special order option. In addition to the Winchester recoil pad, Silvers and N0-SHOC pads were also an option.
