This site will give you the history of the Hamilton rifles: http://home.comcast.net/~jimringbauer/HamiltonRiflesindex.html

This page tells about the Model 23: http://home.comcast.net/~jimringbauer/Model23.html

The Model 23 was the first bolt action rifle made by Hamilton. The receiver is a steel tube with the loading port in the top where the barrel joins. The bolt is 7-3/4" long and the bolt handle is at the extreme end. Unlike the usual bolt action, this bolt handle does not lock into a receiver notch. The locking knob has to be manually operated for it to lock in. Two types of stocks can be found on this model a rounded oval pattern or a thin board type with slightly rounded edges.
