.38 special 148gr DEWC, W231 load
I have several load books and they vary on what is considered the minimum load for 148gr lead DEWC in a .38 special round. One book has it listed at 3.0 grains, another has the minimum listed as 3.4 grains.
What's the lowest you've gone?

I have loaded thousands of 148 gr .38 HBWC with 3.2-3.3 gr W231.
I don't see where a DE would be much different.0 -
Hollowbase wadcutters require a lighter charge to keep from blowing the skirt of the bullet off at the muzzle - destroying accuracy. Double-ended bullets don't have this problem and are usually loaded a bit warmer. The tradeoff is that DEWCs aren't quite as accurate as HBWCs. Neither is accurate beyond about 50 yards, at which distance they begin to lose stability. 0 -
Often bullseye guns were rebarreled with a 1 in 10" twist to optimize wadcutter accuracy. As opposed to 1/14", 1/16" - Colt or 1/18.75" - S&W standard twists. 0 -
3.5grs 231 is a very good load. Don't go over 4.0grs. 0
