I got one. I like it! 0 -
ProStaff is the Nikon entry level line. Take a peek at Leupold's Rifleman and Burris Timberline for similar prices on their entry level scopes. I have a few copies of each, I kind of like the clearness of the Nikon - very, very good I think. The scopes in the Burris line are pretty small, they have a 4.5 X 14 (AO) that's about the size of a 3 to 9X. 0 -
The prostaff is a great scope and you will be very happy if you choose one, for not much more money you could step up to Nikon's Buckmaster 3-9X40 BDC, most retailers sell this model for only 219.99.
IMHO there is no reason to go with a 50mm objective on a 3-9 power scope. Your eye only has a entrance pupil of 5mm and a 40mm scope has a 5mm exit pupil at 8X. So by going with a 50mm Objective the only thing your gaining is cost and weight. A 40mm objective will give you everything you need.0 -
The Nikon Prostaff blows the doors off the Leupold Rifleman or VX1! 0 -
For the money, it simply CANNOT be beat! 0 -
I agree with the comments and especially with the referral to the buckmaster. Great scope for the money. Cant really go wrong. 0 -
I have one on my Ruger Compact 308. It has served me well for several seasons. I compared the Nikon, Leupold, and Burris scopes in that price range, and chose the Nikon. Mine is a 3-9X40. 0 -

You'll get more bang for your money with Redfield (now owned by Leupold). IMHO, between the two I compared, it's the Redfield Revolution hands down - better optics and more generous eye relief.
For 2010 Leupold has reintroduced Redfield scopes in the new Revolution lineup, re-using some old Redfield terminology like Illuminator to describe the lenses. The new scopes are one piece, the MSRP is quite close to the selling price (unlike Leupold's VX-III scopes), and they are priced in the same range as Leupold's VX-I scopes. Lenses are multicoated, not fully multicoated, meaning a combination Multicoated lens or lenses (usually the external ones) and single coated. One unique Redfield feature is the Accu-Range Reticle, for ranging and lost distance shooting. Leupold is offering a lifetime warranty on their Redfield optics products.
Good luck!

I have one, my buddy has 2... neither of us has ever had one that has ever lost zero or failed in any way, both have sharp optics and perform well.
I do like the Buckmaster more, as it has more easily managed objective focus and windage/elevation adjustment, but then that's more money.0 -
Nikon has a lifetime warranty I think. Not sure about the Redfeild. 0
