SHAPLEIGH'S 22 BOLT ACTION
I have a stumper for you gentilemen! A friend gave me this rifle to fix up for her. A SHAPLEIGH 22 rimfire bolt action with a tube fed magazine under the barrel. It needed a good cleaning and the stock refinished. A very cute mech. under the action for feeding a new round. The bolt only has to open then pulled back 1" and a new rd. is lifted up by a fancy lever to be chambered. Very quick cycleing!
2 screws on receiver for scope mount. A 24" barrel with a leaf rear sight with elevator. A slide safety on the right side of receiver.
I know that SHAPLEIGH was a hardware store in St. Louis, Mo. The Blue Book doesn't have a listing on some thing this old. Can you guys help with age and any history? It shoots great! Thanks, in advance.

Odds are it's an old Stevens. Or some other American gun maker who made it on contract. Generally these types of guns were field grade models that have little collector value. But if you could post some pics for us to ID it, we might be able to give you a better idea of what it is. And value. 0 -
Most of these large hardware wholesalers/distributors that sold these inexpensive "Store Brand" .22 rifles and shotguns, went out of business during the Great Depression of the early 30"s. Likely that would make your rifle at least 75 years old.
I second the previous posters suggestion. Quality photos would be the only hope for a positive identification of the manufacturer.0 -
After much research, I have id'ed the Shapleigh. It is a Remington Model 34 bolt action tube-fed repeating .22 rimfire. It can be found on page 560 of the Numrich Gunparts catalog along with a parts list and picture. The Blue Book has it listed as being made from 1932 to 1936 and it's worth maybe $ 250.00. Shapleigh Hardware went out of business in 1957 in St. Louis, Mo. She is going to be very happy to get this info. Thanks for your help! 0
