Stock splintering

I have a model 100 Winchester that has a patch on the stock that is splintering or cracking. It looks like dry wood. I would like to stabilize or repair it before it gets any worse. If it isnt something fairly easy I would be willing to have it repaired by someone who is expert at something like this. Any suggestions?
