Check that tutorial at the top of the topics list...it should help you insert pdhoto's. I would assume this to be an old military rifle converted over to 22-250 as a varmint/hunting rifle. These are literally impossible to value without pics, as the quality of the conversion, or known name smith who did it will determine value. Literally, any where from $200 to $2000.

Hey Bill, no luck. i believe anyone who likes Mauser's and this cailber would like this gun. It looks great and is very accurate. I may just list it on GB and see what happens. I would like to get some information about it first.

Here is the link to your auction.

It appears unfortunately from the Proof Marks that the Mauser was a high quality commercial rifle before it was sporterized and rebarreled. It would have been worth more now to a collector if it had been left in it's factory original condition.

The sporterization with the extreme Weatherby type stocking and the barrel drilled for the scope base isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea. Not likely to bring you in the big bucks, IMHO.

    Willishill,

As pointed out, this was a commercial Mauser Type B produced in Oberndorf. The A/N is short talk for 'on the river Neckar'.

The time frame is approximately 1912 as indicated by the proofmarks, Crown over B, Crown over U and the serial number. The potential is very high that this was originally released in 7x57 Mauser since this was the greatest majority of this serial numbered run. There are exceptions of course but without the barrel we really are only guessing.

The 'sporterizing' is indeed indicative of the time period in which it was produced or the fantasies of the original owner. We all have our personal likes and dislikes but this style has taken a beating over the years in the gun press by writers who have little understanding of fitting firearms. This will appeal to a smaller group but it has a niche which will provide bids on this rifle.

    Two final observations:

You should have kept the scope bases on the rifle and the throat condition in the barrel will be suspicious since it has been used as a .22-250 without a round count.

I see the bidding has begun but you gave it a long run time-wise so we can watch it later as it winds down.

    Best.

It's a fair-looking varmint/sporter conversion of a commercial 98 action. Pls don't expect to retire on the proceeds here.

    Some feedback:
    1) Great (low) opening price. G'luck w/ it
    2) A maker/gunsmith's name (if known) would surely help things along
    3) $60 is quite a high fee for delivery
