Tight chamber mauser rnd. 2
Tried shells from a new box of Winchester super x and none jammed as long as I load the magazine. By loading single shells in the chamber, the ejector jams behind the shell. Thanks for all the advice.

Mauser is meant to be shot strictly from the magazine.
If you want to single load it, you need to bevel the extractor and even cut a clearance for it to spring outward in the receiver.
Just shoot it like it was designed.0 -

It WAS designed to be single loaded WITHOUT having some hack carve on the extractor.
Mr Mauser designed it, and troops were trained on how, to press the extractor bow into the bolt body with their fingers which lifts the claw over the rim as you close the bolt.0 -
I haven't heard that one.
Not to say that was not taught, but I bet it would be a trick in a trench with a Frenchman shooting at you.0 -

You reckon they did a lot of single loading while in a trench with Frenchmen shooting at them?[;)]0 -
About as much as the Doughboys did, and they had actual magazine cutoffs. 0 -

Hawk,
I'm in agreement with Tailgunner here. The round can be laid on the feed tray or slid up into the chamber and have the extractor 'pop over' it. It doesn't do the rim any good but it will fire and extract the way it should.
This is not like the Savage 1920 and Win models, 54 and 70, who didn't allow the extra room for the extractor to pop over the rim. You can make it easier by pressing in on the extractor or you can just slam forward nice and hard and it will go. The P14 and U.S. models of 1917 (Mauser copies) will slam over the rim as well.
Did I mention I'm partial to Mausers[;)][:D]0 -

Ah. A genuine target range perspective.
Single-loading a Mauser with a full magazine would have risked double-feeding.0 -
I have read instructions on how to hold down the magazine load while introducing an additional round into the chamber. Sounds like a fumble-prone excercise on the range, more so in the field, worse in battle. 0 -
If you want to single load, do as advised press the extractor bow. Do not file down the magazine follower to allow bolt to close on empty magazine. Press down the follower to allow bolt to close, it was designed to not close when empty without operator intervention. Leave the safety like it was designed, three position with the blade up in your line of sight when on. Mount your scope forward,S&K mount long eye relief scope on the original stepped/lapped barrel, sight mount. Only modification I would suggest is a timney trigger and a composite stock, you can return to original military specs any time. 0
