Ruger Mini-14 Twist Rate.
The twist rate in a Mini-14 will best stabalize what weight bullets? More specifically, which will a Mini-14 best stabalize, a 52gr bullet or a 75 gr bullet?

The current Mini uses a 1 in 9 twist. It will definitely do the 52 and I'm fairly certain it will do the 75. I have a Ruger 77V, it has a 1 in 12 and won't do anything above 62 - with 1 in 9 I think you're OK doing the 75s.0 -
You mentioned the current Mini. I have had this Mini for sure over 15 years, maybe over 20 years. Did the earlier Mini's have a different twist? 0 -
At one time Ruger used a 10" twist. I think they made some with a 7" twist. The only way you will know what yours is will be to measure it using a tight patch on a swivel handle cleaning rod and markers to let you measure the length for one turn. 0 -
My old one is a 55 gr shooter, heavier bullets keyhole. My new one has a tighter twist and shoots both OK. Good idea to measure the twist rate using the above mentioned patch method. 0 -
The first mini-14's had a slower twist, I believe it was a 1-12", but that was 30yrs ago, so I may be wrong.
Ruger can tell you what the twist rate is on your rifle by the serial number.
The 1-9" twist was found to work best with the 62grn BT bullets.0 -
