Re-finishing after removing bluing
I have a Stainless Steel Mdl 64 revolver. I was lucky enough to locate a Wichita rib from the 70's which I installed. The problem is that the rib is blue and looks weird on the SS revolver.
I want to remove the bluing (I have Naval Jelly at home) but what do I do after the bluing is gone? I heard the metal will be very susceptible to rust ("in the white")
What are my options to get the metal to somewhat match the rest of the revolver and still be rust resistant?

Have it nickel plated. 0 -
Nickel plating is too bright for my tastes and plus, I am a really CHEAP B!!%@!
Anything I can do at home with something I can get at a hardware store? (like Krylon protectant, etc.)0 -
Duracoat or a similar spray on finish 0 -
Won't an Anodized Aluminum finish work? 0 -

Brushed nickel looks just like stainless. Cheap huh, well I guess you could use your wifes nail polish.[:D]0 -
Cheap as in I used to tumble my cases in the dryer with the clothes (in a separate pillow case of course)
Re: the nail polish, I did that in the car to repair a chip in the clearcoat covering the wood interior...LOL...didn't come out so nice.0 -
check out the spray finishes from brownells. they have what you need. 0 -
Leave the rib alone, the idea is that the black finish won't glare in your eyes. Get the stainless gun blackened if you just must have it all the same color. 0 -
Regarding the nail polish, after letting it thoroughly dry sand it with 2000 grit automotive paper, then finish polishing with Nevr-Dull wadding. I use it on high gloss stock finishes and works like a charm 0 -
Here is the gun...

Hard chrome gives a satiny finish. 0
