It would be fine but the 12 inch rod seems a little small to me. I have an 18 inch in my 14 gun cabinet.

Armilite, Right.....figured that out after I bought it. I found a 24" rod, but will have to order it online. I am really concerned with the contact & fire. Thanks.........

It's basically a dehumidifer and doesn't throw off heat it is basically warm to the touch that's all.

They don't get that hot. If you're still concerned, hang it from hooks or set it on a couple of small pieces of 2x4.

You might check out some of the products sold at http://mpionline.biz/ and especially the Rifle Rod Video which shows rods for storing pistols and revolers.

    Am I missing something?

You are worried about a product that is built to be used in a gun safe being unsafe in a gun safe?

I have 2 golden rods both 18" long
and each draws 18 watts per the package.
It might melt seran wrap maybe.
