Wild cat
A 30.06 necked up from .308 to .311
I'm in need of a good working load.

Anything that would work in the '06 will be okey in your ctg. 0 -
WHY?? there are others that can do the same....? 0 -
I'll guess that you have a m-1909 mauser that has been 'rechambered' to .30/06, you donen't have a 'wild-cat' you have a .30/06 that 'likes' larger bullets. just use standard .30/06 data for the weight bullet you are loading. 0 -
Da-Tank,
If you have what Mike Whiskey describes, they usually love 174 gr. spitzers. I have one too BTW.0 -
What do you use for dies? 0 -
Tank, I think what you have is a conversion from the 8mm Mauser to an old wildcat, 8mm-'06. It was cheaper to rechamber the existing barrel than to replace it. Don't remember where I read about it but maybe I can find it I think.
P.S.
That didn't take long! The cartridge is described in the old NRA handloading book, "Handloading". it lists 14 loads for the cartridge including one using a .323 inch, 175gr. Sierra at 2800 fps. I think that should kill Bambi if you hit him with it! Measure your bore diameter again to be sure what you're working with. .323" is 8mm; .311 is 7.65mm. You probably would need to cut back the powder charge
somewhat if you've got a .311 bore.

If OleDuk's theory is correct and it is an 8mm-06, Speer #9 has data. What bullet and powder are we talking about?
Although, I think it's just as likely that the gun is a rechambered 7.65x53, which would probably be close enough to an '06 that you could just use '06 data.0 -
8mm Mausers (8 X 57) came in two bore diameters .318 and .323. This is a .311 bore. 0 -
Soreshoulder, the NRA book has load data for .323 bullets of 125,150,170,175,196,200 & 220 grains.
.311 bullets would require somewhat lighter charges.

This sounds like a 7.7mm .311 Jap rechambered to 30/06.I have one of these. I load .311 bullets in the 30/06 cases for it.[8D] 0
