Is this what the inside of a fly reel looks like?

The release feels off, so I took it apart. I put it back together, but I don't know if I did it correctly. Everything still feels the same though.

It winds up fine, however, the release is just a joke.

Not sure what you mean by release. Are you referring to the drag?

Judging from what appears to be rust, and I'm guessing a polymer construction, it's a reel you've had around for awhile.

If you broke it down, put it back together and it still doesn't feel right, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the drag material has deteriorated.

I think you can probably get a comparable for under $50.00.
