Carcano
I have an Italian Carcano that's in pretty nice shape, looks to have a refinished (varnished - ugh!) stock. Any markings anyone might know of that might point to it's worth?
I knew it couldn't be worth much, thanks guys!

I have always heard the Carcano was basically a "junk" rifle. I always wondered why, since it was a military rifle, I would think it would be dependable. Was curious as to what the issue is with them.

This website should help you in identification: http://personal.stevens.edu/~gliberat/carcano/
Pictures are necessary to help you in evaluation but most are pretty common and not highly collectible.0 -
Not to steel your thread
but I remember when I was
a kid reading my dads field
and stream and I'm pretty
sure you could buy
a carcano for $7.0 -
$200.00, 100% military mint $250.
Your right about the $7. Then for another $7. you could order 500 rds of military ammo (full jacket/corrosive primer) , then you go to the REA (railroad express office) and pick it all up and find they want an additional $35. for REA shipping. Those were the days and you could do the whole deal as a 12yr old, as long as you had the money!0
