    I cannot speak to the markings on a 1966 AR-15, but my 1964 AR-15 does not have any markings on the bolt carrier. The only markings on the upper receiver are a "C" in a square above the Colt "VP" (Verified Proof), both of which are located just ahead of the ejector port on the flat surface.

    The bolt carriers were not marked until about 1968 when GM and H&R started making M16A1s. I don't think the uppers were marked until 1970 or so

    no kidding !! that site and their references are great, i had it on my old hard drive that crashed, i am in the process of rebuilding my Bookmarks/Favorites, etc.
