Simson Luger
I have recently seen a Simson Luger for sale with a chamber date of 1914. As I understand it Simson did not start manufacturing Lugers until at least 1920 or 1922. Is there some reason a Simson would have such an early chamber date?

May sound a little trite, but are you sure the numbers match? Could be a Russian rework, or a permission gun that has been reworked by Simson and someone obscured the 1920 date? We need pictures otherwise this is all totally subjective and pure guess work. 0 -
Be Careful something does not compute. Lugers at Random states parts gun. /rework.of LATE WW I 1917 and 1918 but I don't see any mention of earlier dates also some are unmarked chamber area and still others were entirely made by Simson.I also looked at JON c. Still book and don't see any 1914 chamber date . I would like to see GOOD close-ups of all inspection and proof marks. 0 -
I had previously written the seller with this question, but have not received a reply. The gun can be viewed at:

Also, note the "S/42" on the inside of the right grip.0 -
Thank you for your input.
I am not that knowledgeable about Lugers, but am trying to learn enough to avoid being seriously burned. I am learning that may be a difficult objective.
It is very interesting that all numbers match on this gun, even the font of the "5" used in the 58.0 -
The Proof Marks, "Eagle N" on the Luger are the ones that were used in post 1940 Germany. Because of this and the 1914 chamber date it's obviously mismatched. Beyond this it requires a hands-on by a very knowledgeable Luger collector to verify if the Simpson markings are authentic. 0
