Both good guns. Is it Kimber of Oregon or Yonkers? What advantage does a compact 308 offer you. What is your application hunting or target?

It is a yonkers gun,and will be used for hunting as well as long range shooting

Both rifles will be very accurate and will for the most part shoot better than the man behind the trigger, however the Kimber will have better fit and finish than the Remington, it is kind of the differance of buying a Lexus over a Toyota, the Toyota will do everything that the Lexus will, but you feel better driving the Lexus

Go with the Remington 700 more options. The Kimbers are good and have a sweet trigger. However the 700 is everywhere and will be going forward.

If I intended to leave the gun untouched, I would buy the Kimber. If modifying the rifle, I would purchase the Remington. There are more speed parts available for the 700 and I would feel bad about screwing up the aesthetics of a nice Kimber gun.

I will second what 1KYDSTER said. I would say both are going to be very accurate to start with. The Remington 700 has all kinds of aftermarket options. The Kimber does not. The Remington holds it's base value. The Kimber is going to increase in value over time better if left "as is".

Which brings up a point on use. The Remington is going to come with a synthetic stock that you can scratch up and it isn't going to matter all that much. As noted there are plenty of stock choices to replace it with. Which will help the value be retained. The Kimber on the other hand if used hard (not abused) isn't going to retain it's value very well. So, this really boils down to how hard you want to use the rifle. You're going to come out ahead with the 700 if you want to take it out every weekend and do some serious low-crawling/hunting in thick brush/'banging around' in steep country.

Be very, very careful if you go with the Remington...MSNBS's crack investigative journalists have determined that the rifle will fire if it is hit by a breeze or if a fly lands on it. Some of the 700's have gone off just sitting alone in the safe. Very scary stuff![}:)][:D]

Yea and what they (CNBC) left out was that the rifle that killed the boy was very dirty, rusty and heavily corroded and that the Marine Sniper's rifles had had unauthorized modifications to their triggers. There was a whole story about what CNBC edited out in the interviews as well as pertinent facts. Apparently, you did not see Remingtons rebuttal! I have probably owned over 100 Model 700's and shot most of them, currently own two and never had a problem with them that wasn't of my own doing!

I would advise the OP to get the Remington as it is a very reliable and durable rifle that will give you great shooting and service for many, many years to come.

Both are good guns, I have a couple Kimbers and a few Remingtons. They all shot well. If you want the looks of something more tactical, get the Remington. Other than that, I would get the Kimber.
