Kimber stainless .45
I purchased a kimber pro carry II stainless .45 about 3 months ago. I bought it to carry, not to sit in a safe but low and behold the slide will show "rust" spots after as little as 24 hours in the truck. Kimber says it's an environmental problem. So I cleaned the weapon and put it back in my truck with an old 645 (stainless smith) and a sig p-220 (blued slide) and guess what, The kimber showed rust spots the next day. the sig after 10 days and the old 645 still shows nothing. (30 days). Whats up?? Also the main spring failed in the first 800 rounds. So i replaced it with a colt one I had laying around here. Don't get me wrong. The weapon shoots very very well. Accurate and feeds anything. I shoot the sig and the kimber equally well. I just expected more from the kimber I guess. Was I expecting to much from the kimber ??

My kimber eclipse custom II has been through the wringer. Just like your Sig, and Smith, it has never shown a single hint of any rust whatsoever. I'm thinking you got a bad one. I'd see if you can talk to Kimber again. Keep us posted. 0 -
Different Alloys of metal have different properties. It says STAINLESS . Not Stain-proof. Kimber has gone to MIM parts and other cost cutting methods .Maybe they have gone to a stronger but different alloy of stainless steel because they also had some KABOOM problems in the past. 0 -
spray it down with birchwood casey sheath, light coat-perhaps it will help and also there may be some trace metal in the stainless.clean the crap out of it with a quality brakekleen and a piece of burlap and then spray it down with the sheath stuff. good luck 0 -
Thanks guys, I appreciate the input and will try your suggestions. I now stainless isn't stain proof. I have a 625 that will show some rust if carried in a leather holster on a damp day if I don't wipe it down in the evening when I get back in the house. This one just seemed excessive. I'll holler at kimber after the holiday. Thanks again 0 -

Put a magnet up to it and see if it is 400 series stainless instead of 300 series. 400 series stainless is much more prone to rusting than a 300 series stainless or 17-4 stainless. 400 series stainless steals are also magnetic. [8D]0
