In addition to what Bill told you, it was made for low pressure Black Powder ammo. Firing it with modern smokeless ammo could cause health and safety problems for both the revolver and the person attempting to fire it.0 -
Thank you all so very much. 0 -
I was able to find out a bit more on the revolver Its NOT an Iver Johnson ,, Its a Hopkins and Allen the dates on it are Pat March 28 1872 and the date on the hammer is Jan 27 01 , The ser # is in the 9000 range and the barrel and Cyl numbers are matching . Sorry for the mis info but my eyes arent what they used to be ,, I had to borrow a jewelers loop th see the stamping . 0 -
it is going to be probably best to make a new post on this revolver. the reason is i have a complete (almost) list of Hopkins & Allen patents and can't match any of the two dates you list. i have some that are close but not exactly. please look at these markings closely and try to post pictures of them and the entire gun.
i have never seen a Boston Bull Dog marked with the H&A name, and the iver johnson manufactured Boston Bull Dog were not generally marked with any patent dates.
need pictures
