You obviously meant 740/742/7400 which are semi-auto. We have reloaded for and shot a 742 .308 for years and it has NEVER jammed or misfired. I'm not saying they won't, but proper cleaning and maintenance should fix most problems.

This was a reply to another
    thread and I guess I didn't
make myself clear. As I read it again,
I see that unless one was following
    the 1st thread between 1Kydstr
and me a neophyte would be confused.

Hey Rong, got back to you late....kids are crazy! The main failures I have seen are an increasing tendency to fail to extract, and at least 2 full retract bolt binds that appeared to be terminal for the action. I strongly suspect that most of these guns were none too well maintained, but still can't help but note that of the many BAR's I see, none have displayed these faults, even if none too well maintained either.

I have worked at the range now for 9 years. I have seen perhaps 40 740/742/7400 guns fail in the extraction category. Cleaning these guns universally helped, but only for a time. All seemed to revert back and with increasing frequency. As mentioned, I have seen 2 guns fail where it appeared that the bolt was blown back into the action with sufficient force to bind it to the rear. Also, the frequency of these events has increased in the last 3 years or so. I would assume this to be the result of all these guns getting older, and the accumulated neglect of their owners (Not saying ALL, or even most of the owners of these guns don't properly care for them...just an observation of a few individuals).

At any rate, not sure how the pump guns got involved in this thread; I have generally high regard for them! Just not a big 740/742/7400 fan. Best to all.
