No doubt, both great guns. I am fond of Smith's, but the difference is one of aesthetics and ergonomics, not any deficiency in either design. The Colt's would be more of a collector piece, but as it sounds to me as though you are going to shoot it, go for the Smith and shoot it to your hearts content.

rjc....I have both guns (and a couple of M29's too) and enjoy them all. As far as shooting them, they both are about the same (although I like the trigger better on my Anaconda). But the Colt Anaconda will do nothing but appreciate in price while the 629 will stay about where it is in value. So, what do you want? A gun that you can shoot and will do nothing but appreciate in value or one you can shoot and it will not? So, in my book, the Colt is worth the extra $ as you will able to shoot it and sell it years later for what you paid for it....in other words, you can shoot it for free. Anyway, good luck in your choice...don't think you can go wrong in either case[^]

I collect both Smiths and Colts. At that price difference I would go with the 629.

    I doubt I would part with my 6" 45 Anaconda for $1100.00.....

I have put nearly 30,000 rounds out of a 29 with a 10 5/8 barrel. I looked for a 629 4 in. and found a 6 in. I could not stand to shoot it a whole box at one time. If you plan to shoot a 4 in much I would try one first. I gave the 6 in away and later that guy gave it away too.
