7x64 brenneke or 280 remington??
Just bought a custom mauser that was suppose to be 7x57 mauser. It is not. After checking the headspace I thought maybe it was a 7mm06 but it closed on the nogo 06 guage. I have no guage for either cartridge but my question is if I try to chamber a 280 remington (which I can get today) will the bolt close if it is 7x64? Headspace on the 7x64 is 2.096 on the 280 2.104.

Of course I realize I will likely need to take a chamber cast to find out for sure 0 -
I just tried it, and in my 7x64 a 280 round would not chamber. Tried the other way and a 7x64 round did chamber in my 280 Remington. 0 -
sounds like you have the 7X64 chambering . I once had a cape gun in 7X65R most reloading manuals have the same loading for all three cartridges the same . The ammo for 7X64 is available from RWS and I would bet you could use 280 Remington cases and 280 Remington dies turned down tight against the shell holder to size these cases to chamber in your rifle. I would love to see your rifle if you don't mine posting pictures here or send me a personal EMAIL by double clicking on my user name Thanks Karl. 0 -
Aren't the 7x64 and the 7x64 brenneke different. I have one for sale on the auction side linked here, not cheap but pretty cool gun
