Oil Finish on Kimber Classic .22LR
I have just purchased a used Kimber Classic .22LR bolt action rifle. From what I have read, Kimber used a hand rubbed oil finish on the stocks for these rifles. Do any of you know what kind of oil was used on the stocks by Kimber? BLO (Boiled Linseed Oil), RWO (Raw Linseed Oil), PTO (Pure Tung Oil), etc
Thanks, Mike

I would assume BLO as that is sort of the American way. I prefer Tung oil myself, and since you can control the amount of shine by the amount of elbow grease, I think it is the most workable and deepest. 0 -
I dont see them using a BLO or a raw linseed, too time consuming, and raw linseed is obsolete by about 100 years. I would guess some type of Danish oil tru oil or tung oil type finish. A Kimber expert might know and I bet you could find a "just Kimber" forum out there on the WWW.
The thing is, alot of these companies made there own with a combination or different types of oils/dryers/stains. I would assume Kimber also did this and it might be like finding the recipe to Kentucky Fried Chickenr or Winchester'sr origianl finish.0 -
All they mention is its a hand rubbed. Certainly a proprietary oil finish. Would not be suprised if its a blend of Tung oil and possibly teak oil to give it some grip...Link...
