22LR Revolver purchase
I'm looking for a new 22LR revolver to give my youngest. What 'economical' revolvers in 22LR can you recommend?
I/we have a single six convertible in good shape, but it does not shoot any LR ammo well (yes, using the LR cylinder). It does well in the MAG configuration but I don't want a convertible for him.
Thanks in advance

My wife loves her Ruger Bearcat. 0 -
I agree on the Bearcat. They feel substantial; not at all lightly made regardless of frame material. A nice old K-22 would be fun, but alas kind of expensive. 0 -
I gave the grandkids a Bearcat. Also gave them a S&W M63 with Woolf spring kit, wide trigger, & professional trigger job.
Can't have too many guns.

Get a used H&R Sportsman - economical, fun to shoot (pops out all 9 empties at one time), reasonably to very accurate, very reliable, can be found for between $300 and $400 on the internet auctions in near new condition. 0 -

Unfortunately, not a whole lot of good choices for production .22LR revolvers. You got cheap and not that good, and expensive and good. . .and not very much in between.
I'd say Ruger is pretty much the only choice for a quality gun in current manufacture that isn't terribly expensive. Its a shame that Ruger doesn't make any .22 double action guns, but it doesn't.
For GOOD double action .22 revolvers you got: Smith 17 (and variants), Dan Wesson .22, and Colt (a few different ones). None of these are under $400, some are a LOT more, and the last two aren't in production anymore.
Charter arms makes a double action "target pathfinder" in .22LR with a 4" bbl. This gun is pretty inexpensive at about $300. . .though I can't comment at all on its quality. That's probably worth a look.
Taurus has a current production medium frame double action .22LR gun with 4" bbl for a little over $300 also. I'm not a huge fan of Taurus, but this could be a good option if you find a good one.
There are a few Spanish made .22LR DA guns out there, though I don't think any are all that great.
Single action. . .again best non-expensive production gun is Ruger. If you want a "lifetime" gun, that's the one I'd get.
Freedom arms makes an AWESOME .22LR single action. . .for $2000! [:(]
Heritage Arms makes a low-end alloy frame .22 for about $150. Probably OK as a starter gun, though I wouldn't expect super durability here. Accuracy? Don't know. . .it might be there.
You might check out H&R, and also some of the older High Standard revolvers too. I think those are reasonably good for the money.0 -

gotstolefrom.....great to be a buyer in today's market! With prices somewhat deflated, I would shop around for the best .22 I could get for the money. You don't define "economical" but since prices are down pretty much all over, I would go for a pistol that I could shoot till the cows come home and it would keep its value. Having said that, I would go for a SAA Colt .22 like a Frontier or a Scout. I see several on the GB Auction side going in the $300+ range and up or in the Ruger Bearcat price range. Some even have box and papers! You can never go wrong with a Colt[^]. He/she can shoot it and keep it and it will do nothing but go up in value. Another older .22 that has a great reputation is the double action High Standard Sentinel that can be had rather cheaply if you shop around. But, again, I would go for a Colt .22. Good luck[:)][:D]in your search[^]0 -
Cheapest around are probably Heritage Arms 22lr - 22mag 6 shot at about $199 0 -
I have been looking at Rossi. I have inspect the stainless model with adjustable sights, 6 shots. It is tight and smooth. Don't know MN. It may not be in production. 0 -
You can't go wrong with a Ruger Single Six for value and dependability. In fact, I have a 22lr/22WMR convertible I may be listing on the auction side in the near future (top of picture below).
