I own a remington 870 from the early 70s with a 3 " chamber and 30" full choke. This gun has sat in the rack all winter except for maybe 2 or 3 times to wipe it down. The other day I took it off the rack and the rib is slightly canted and will not line up flush with the receiver. Any ideas why this would happen? The barrel nut is tight and with the barrel nut off the barrel will line up flush once I tighten the barrel nut it is slighy tilted to the left.

I have a early 80's 870 30" full and would'nt sell/trade without getting something great in return. Never any problems with function. I call it Ma Bell, it'll reach out and touch. For me I shoot alot of doves and I can get'em after eveyone else misses, though I grew up shooting full choke and am comfortable with them. Price is up to you and seller, but mines a keeper !

What you have is a good one. There are over 10 million Rem 870's out there so values are dependent on who wants it. New ones are reasonable. Yours in the relm of $200.00

$200 sounds low to me, they go for more than that for a wingmaster in these parts.

No such thing as a "BAD" Wingmaster [:0]
One like yours goes for $300-350 around here.

Yours is a "bad" one because if you believe them they can buy it from you cheap!
$ 250-300 all day long for a wingmaster in good condition in this area.
Keep it, they don't get much better!

    Frank,
Quoted values per above are spot-on. Early (like yours) = more quality/value. Around here, these will fetch much more than any current shelf model, so forget about that "info" that you were told.

Background: Rem's quality did go to hell in the mid '90s after the company's "re-tooling effort" (from which they've never completely recovered). Your 870 is dated well before this fiasco's time. Enjoy it !!

I still keep 2 of these early specimens, & they are both fine shooters.

I have a 1952 870 wingmaster with the corn cob wood slide handle. I would think mine is worth about $350.00 easy as it is in 90% shape. Yours should run about the same money. You cannot beat the twin slidebars and smooth action.

I have a 1981 Wingmaster 12 GA Ser V6218__V that I bought thru Gunbroker in Jan 2010 from a dealer (cosignment). It was my first GB purchase, it looked clean. I put in the closet, after I contacted Remington to verify the date of manufactuure. I took it out this month before deer season (has deer barrel) and tried it. It won't eject winchester rackmaster 2 3/4 shells cleanly, shells get stuck on ejector. its a bad ejector which is riveted to inside back wall of chamber, according to an experienced on-site gunsmith at the shooting range. He said that is the only weakness in the design. I feel like I've been screwed. I email the dealer, no reply. I call, he says I had 3 days to try gun. Is there anything I can do? I had to take another gun deer hunting. Tony
