Colt Python 357 6" blue
this is my first post, I am recently unemployed and need to find the value of this gun. I realize from reading other posts that you need pictures for more accurate number. It is in new condition, Has a chip in the wooden handle from a safe accident. I have factory box and paper work that shows it was sent back to factory for installaion of elision sights. I purchased this gun over 25 years ago and also trying to find the age.
thanks

MetroServices,
Hello, and welcome tot the forums here on Gunbroker.com.
Yes it would be best if we seen what you had. The set of new stocks for the Python to replace the ones that are chipped, can run as much as $200.00, or more. As for the rest of it, assuming the chip is minor(but not unaccounted for), you are talking about $800.00-1000.00 for the condition you say it is in.
The best way for one to judge, is look at the auction side, and use the search functions to look at the Pythons. Then go to completed auctions for 30, or 60 days, and look only the ones that have actually sold. That is the best indicator of what the market is dealing out right now.

MetroServices....The good news is that you have one of the best pistols ever made[^]! The bad news is that you have chipped the grip which negatively affects value. But the other good news is that you have all the stuff that came with the gun...box and papers and such. Without photos hard to pin down exactly what your Python is worth, but assuming that the gun was mine (and I have several "snakes") in the condition that you describe, even in this down market, I would not take any less than $1k for the gun as the new owner could get a set of correct grips for $150 or so and the gun will do nothing but appreciate in value. The market for Pythons has remained strong in this buyers market as most folks know that they are the premier pistol made by Colt and always have held their value. Good luck and hope things look up for you[:)]0 -
If you happen to be in CA the item as described would be in the $1,500.00 range pretty easily.
Depending on the grip ding, steaming may be in order to repair or some other fix may work as well. If you have to buy new stocks be aware Pythons used a few different versions over the years, need to get the period correct ones. And of course you can easily sell off your damaged grips to offset the cost of what you buy. A serial number and picture of the grips would help alot.0 -
You'll need to post a serial number so we can tell you the age of the gun. With box and papers you're looking at $1100 or so in my area. 0 -
