The 80's vintage Rossi's weren't big buck guns. We use to blow them out on special sales at less then $130. Even with inflation what he's asking is out of line. Given their mediocre quality and the poor state of the economy, this guy is just blowing smoke, IMHO. Make sure it's in time and it locks up tight, then offer him $225. If he won't take, just walk away.

$325 is at least $100 to $150 too high IMO. The older Rossi's were lower in quality than a Taurus--The Mid 1990's ones were ok but nothing special and Taurus owns them now. I have only owned 1 Rossi and that was a stainless 2" .38 of about 1997 vintage and it was a good gun but it stayed with my exwife. I have also shot a friends older rossi 971 and it was a really decent gun. If you can pick it up for $200 or less and it's in good condition it can make an ok truck gun.

Considering you can a S&W police trade in for around $250 or less, I'd say he needs his Rossi more than you at that price.

No pictures, haven't seen the gun yet, a guy has a Rossi 33, 38 Special, 2 inch barrel for sale here for $325. He says he is somewhat flexible on the price. I searched the completed auctions with only a tiny bit of luck. I did the internet search and came up with a lot of vague information. What I need is just a starting point regarding the actual value. From what I have found is that $325 is way too high. Has anyone had any experience with this particular model? Pro's and con's? Is it even worth driving to town to see it?

coledigger4....I have several Rossi's and like them for what they are...rather cheap clones of S&W's. You don't say what condition the Rossi is in, nor rather he has all the other things like box, papers and such. If he has everything and the pistol is in 95% or so condition, $200 TOPS and I would start at $150 and dig in around $175 or so. There are too many used Smith's out there to pay over the top for a cheap clone Rossi IMHO plus the market is way down now and you are in the drivers seat as a buyer[^]. Good luck![:)]

Model 33 isn't listed by Rossi, however, I did find several model 33's that sold on a few other auction sites. List for the gun new was $225. Looks like a very old version of the model 88.

I would guess you are looking at $150 max in good condition. I've had very good luck with Rossi's, but I do have to "gunsmith" them when I first get them. I've purchased a few 351's new for under $200 (and had to do a little work on them)

If you've got a few extra bucks I'd buy something else since no one lists a 33 and I'm sure parts would be hard to get.

    Best of luck

I told the guy NO today. He said he took it as trade and could possibly go as low(?) as $300. When I told him what I have found, he seemed a bit (word for extremely not happy) about what he has and now has to figure out how to get even close to what he lost out of it. "Sorry, I am not interested"! Again, I have to thank this forum!

My wifes CCW pistol is a model 88 stainless. She shoots it pretty often, she has never had any problems with it. Yet[:)].
