My model 8 has a pattern that looks like that. I bought it with an old Lyman Alaskan, so I wonder if that is the mount on it? Gun is with my Dad, will have him look if you like.

That would be great! I actually have a old Lyman Alaskan scope I was going to use for this rifle if I find a mount.

That picture, small as it is, sure looks like it would be the same pattern. Lyman and Weaver could well have used the same pattern as there is only so much area to drill the holes on that left reciever wall. The 'Ol Man is retired, and doesn't respond to the whip like he used to, but I will shoot him an e-mail in hopes he can read it off of there without removing it. Look on Fleabay...they may have something listed under the model 81 designation that has that pattern to compare with.

The thing that I'm running into with this particular gun is that I can still find mounts for it on ebay and here on gunbroker. Problem is, they are for where the gun is radiused at the top of the reciever, not for the flat side like my gun is. Weaver still makes a mount but it's for the top radiused part of the action not where mine is drilled and tapped. I would rather not have to drill and tap it again, actually I won't. The darn thing would look like swiss cheese. If I can't end up finding a scope mount I think I might put a tang sight on it.

Here is a link to the last picture in my original post so you can see it in a much larger size. It is image # 19 of 30.

PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH FINDING THE 'T-8' SCOPE MOUNT IS THE COMPANY THAT MADE IT WENT OUT OF BUSINESS 20/30 YEARS AGO. THE CURRENT 'WEAVER' CO. AIN'T THE SAME.

No doubt Mike...as soon as "He" left...the company was never the same again.

The T 8 is a pre-WWII blued sheet metal mount (that fits ONLY the Rem Models 8 & 81) consisting of to two upper/outer ring halves held onto a base (incorporating the lower/inner ring halves) by a bunch of 6-40 thread screws. The only ones of these mounts I have seen were made exclusively for 3/4" diameter tube scopes such as Weaver made back then - there is no way to alter them to take a bigger diameter scope (Lyman Alaskan is 7/8"). Take a look in Stroebels "Old Riflescopes and Mounts" book for pics of the "T" series mounts. (By the way, the attaching screws were 10-32 thread as sent from the factory; also, because the rifle ejects straight up, the mount sites the scope offset to left of center.)
