Unique
I use Unique for target loads in all of my handguns. Great results but it's dirty. Give me a substitute that will duplicate the ballistic characteristics of Unique but is cleaner

Nothing will be an absolutely perfect duplicate to be loaded grain for grain. Read the data in manuals or FREE company literature or www for actual loads with any given powder.
The Hodgdon Clays series is "clean". Universal is the closest to Unique.
Vihtavuori powders have a reputation for cleanliness; I think N320 would do, or maybe it would take N340, depending on whether you were operating at the low or high of the Unique range.0 -
I have switched to 'lil gun for most of my handguns. The pressure curve is much different and you can reach the same velocities with lower chamber pressure. It also seems to burn cleaner. 0 -
Bullseye powder is very similar Unique (a bit faster burning), is much cleaner burning, and was/is real popular for the straight walled pistol cartridge cases. Some of the very best .38 Special target loads I have ever shot are loaded with Bullseye. 0 -
Accurate Arms makes a ball powder called AA 5 that is very close to Unique in burning rate. It runs through a powder measure like water, and is very consistent even when throwing light charges. Years back I use to use Unique allot. It was so dirty burning I got really bummed out, went to the Accurate Arms family of ball powders and never looked back. 0 -
Tite Group is MUCH cleaner than BullsEye or Unique with low charge weights to boot. I have slowly started using Tite Group in many loads replacing Unique. 0 -
I use Unique in all my pistol loads - Then I clean my guns at the end of the day. Hopes #9 works just fine. 0 -
I used Unique until I got a silencer then I started using Tite Group and it is way cleaner.
Sad thing is I have a 8lb jug of unopened jug of W231 that I picked up. Even using 5gr/load I can load about 11,000 rounds so it will last a while.0
