What is Winchster Model 12 Trap??

I look at all the guns on the auction websites. There is a lot of Winchester Model 12 Trap shotguns on these sites. Some show the word "TRAP" stamped on the magazine tube. I'm sure this is a Trap gun but did Winchester make a Trap Model 12 without the word Trap on the mag tube? Does replacing the regular wood with Trap wood make it a TRAP Shotgun?

    I do not know if Winchester ever made an original Model 12 Trap not so marked. My later Y series factory trap gun was not.

    Putting a trap stock on a standard gun would make it a trap gun but it would not make it a Trap gun. That is, it would be suitable for trapshooting but it would not be the equal of a factory original Trap model.

    Yes, WInchester did make Model 12 trap guns without TRAP being spelled out on it. Sometimes the letter T was stamped on them instead, and it is likely that some did not get either stamp.
