Anyone out there have any experience with any of Ed Brown's 1911's and if so, how do you like them?

You can feel it and see it in the gun and target.

I AM NOT an elitist snob...but they are fan friggin' tastic! Pretty good commentary when I can say they really blow away a Kimber (and that is NOT to say I dislike Kimber!)

Ed Brown's especially seem to be at a premium. Whether they are worth it is up to you. Whether there is a difference: Absolutely. You may not notice the difference at first glance, and you may never if you haven't shot other 1911's.

I do think everyone at some point in their life should own a Baer, or Wilson, or Brown custom 1911. They are special. I would recommend buying a used one, as that takes some of the sting out.

Things that I notice right away: The quality look and feel of the checkering, and the silky smooth and tight action. As mention the fit and finish, and the feel in the hand. The trigger feel will be far better.

The thing that makes them worth it to me, is that for some reason, they hit what you aim at better than any other autoloader in your collection. Whether it's the better ergonomics or inherent accuracy, probably depends on the shooter, but they always shoot better.

Some people talk about reliability, but my experience with custom 45's is you need to find what ammo they like, and maintain them a little more than your plastic pistols to keep them functioning well. Some will shout heresy, and talk about how theirs feeds everything flawlessly, no matter how dirty, but that hasn't been my experience over several custom 1911's.

You will also need a bushing wrench to take it apart

Anyone have any personal experience with any of Ed Browns 1911's?

    Yes, they're nice.

    quote:Are they worth that money
Depends on what you're after and want to do with the gun.
Is a BMW "worth" the extra money over a Buick?
Both will drive you to work, right?

    quote:and would I actually feel the difference from a $1000 1911?
Would *YOU* feel the difference, I don't know. . .but if you have a lot of experience with guns (not even necessarily 1911s), you would.

    Is there a difference? Yes.

The Ed Brown guns will have tighter smoother actions (especially noticeable just when racking the slides), nice fine checkering on the grip surfaces, a great bead-blast finish, and be built out of high-quality parts.

I don't know that they are necessarily "more" reliable. . .that's going to depend on what ammo you run through them, which model you're talking about, and what you are comparing them to. In general 1911s are pretty reliable when fed ball ammo.

More accurate than a similar sub $1000 1911? I'd certainly hope so, though again, whether or you actually SEE a difference in accuracy will depend on your skill as a shooter, the type of ammo you use, and what you are comparing against.

Thanks for the info. I was in a shop the other day and they had 5 different Ed Brown's that I looked at. I have Colt and Kimber 1911's but those Ed Browns just look and feel great. I was looking at a Kimber Super Pro Carry. Didn't buy anything. I guess I just want to spoil myself abit and think I made up my mind and go for the Brown. You only live once I guess.

I will tell you this...I own a Para Ordnance, Colt, Kimber, Wilson, and soon a Fusion 1911's. I have handled ans shot the Ed Brown's, and can tell you that they are in the same class with the Wilsons of similar price. You can tell the difference from the $1000.00 to the $2500.00-4k range. It is like the differrence between sandpaper and silk.
