Winchester Model 59
Hello,
I went to a gun show today and found a Winchester Model 59 that was in perfect condition. I was very impressed how light this 12 gauge was. It had a 28" barrel and was a modified choke. Does anyone have any experience with this gun? Would this be a good gun to buy? I would use it for hunting small game and skeet and trap shooting. Were there any problems with this gun? Thank you.

I recently acquired a Winchester Model 59 12GA. It has a screw in choke in the WinLite barrel. Does anyone know where I can get other chokes for this barrel? 0 -
Problems ?? Recoil, glass unwrapping from the barrel, split recievers. Other than that no problems. 0 -
With the proper loads, no problems. With modern 12 gauge loads... yes, you would have problems. 0 -
If you liked the model 59, you should also check out the model 50. It's essentially the same design, but with a steel reciever and barrel. Sure, they are heavier than the 59, but much more durable. They're readily available at very reasonable prices and spare barrels are easily obtainable as well. Stay away from the lightweight model 50 as they have aluminum recievers as does the model 59. 0 -
IF it is perfect,,buy it and put it on display. Interesting item, the way Win made them,,,and then get you a 1100,, 0 -
I have been using one of these wonderful 59"s for years, always use ligther loads and never a problem with the gun, but again stay away from the heavier loads I.E. 1&1/4 LOADS! They sure carry nice in the feild all day long! And no Duck or goose hunting! A' 0 -
I agree with a27640000, with light loads a Model 59 will provide excellent service and prove to be a pleasure to carry afield. I have two and neither has ever given me a problem. Some people dislike the gun's tendancy to be a little butt heavy due to the fiberglass-wrapped barrel, but it doesn't bother me. In fact, if you browse past threads, you'll find the Model 59 has quite a cult following, especially amoung upland game hunters. If you can buy one in like-new condition at a reasonable price, jump on it. 0 -
For your interest Winchester also made a model 59 rifle in .22 caliber; I have one. 0 -
Had one years ago. Hardest kicking little shotgun I ever owned. Maybe the shells I used were heavy loads, but the recoil was punishing. 0
