Any info on a Colt Factory lock, odd item...
I went to an auction last night and bought a lock that has a brass plate on it that has:
COLT
FIREARMS
FACTORY
47
centered over the plate that swivels over the hole for the key. It has two keys and the lock works. Does anyone know where, what for, and/or when this lock might have been used as well as value? Below are 2 pictures. One shows the brass plate in the center with the lettering on it and I am sorry but hard to get good photo so as to read it. Second pic is of the whole lock. I appreciate any info as to it and an idea as to it's time frame as well as value.

hope you didn't pay too much... 0 -
Less than I paid for an old L&N lock a while back. I just wanted it due to the COLT factor. Now to find out where and when COLT used it. 0 -
That lock is pretty common. It is not made by colt. That style lock has a brass name plate
sweated onto to it to id it for use. I have many of the same lock with "San Quentin, Prison"
They sell for $20 to $90 {if it has some 'story' to it}. Bob
You'll be amazed where you can find them.....http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=1957076540 -
Yeah I found out what it is. Seems they are made in Pakistan (sp) and they put the brass plates on them with different places like Colt Factory, Winchester factory, several old famous prisons, and other places that collecters would want. They sell like stated, from $35 to as much as $90 depending on where you buy it. I found them for $40 with anything you want on the brass plate, A nice "novelity" item but the sad part is some are claiming that they are originals and are getting as much as $300 for some (one person paid $300 for one marked Winchester Firarms Factory on Fleabay). I have less than what they are selling for at the low end so I will maybe hang it on the wall as a nice antique "looking" item.
Thanks for the info though. I know a factory I used to work at would issue locks to us and they had the factory name on them and a number. When we quit we had to turn them back in.0
