Remington 700 Varmint Special
As a part of a trade , I got a rifle that I know little about .
Its unfired and 99.9% in orgiginal box with all the papers.
On the box it says : Remington 700, BDL, Varmint Special. .308 24 inch heavy barrel. etc.
B series serial number. The stock is walnut monte carlo, plastic remington butt plate.
Looks new.
I have a PSS and an LTR in .308 already.
What can You tell me about this rifle.
What price range would be on something like this?
Thank You.

Hi Alex,
NIB, your new rifle is worth about $600.00. It is one that can still benifit from installing pillar bedding, but most that I have shot are absolute tack driver's. The stock, as it sits is much more stable than most of the flimsy injection molded stocks of today.

Sounds like something I should oil and put away till I need another HB 308 rifle. 0 -

If I were to get my hands on it, and bed it on pillars, and put decent glass on it, it would make you want to toss the PSS, and LTR.[:D][:D][:D]

Drop into an HS Precision short action stock and have a PSS with a nicer "not so tacticool" finish - or for a project, grab a used Rem 40X stock from Numrich Arms and do a little refinish?0 -
it is the older rem700 varmint model ( newer ones sport a 26" barrel) I bet it has the ebony forend and grip cap in a walnut stock?? If so, it is definitely the older model "varmint".
I would keep it, as ALL heavy barrel rem700 rifles need very little work to be superb shooters.0
