value of this .410
My neighbor has a Mossberg .410 bolt action repeating shotgun. It appears to hold 2 shells in the magazine and is basically a plain Jane in decent condition. It has dried up oil and dust all over it but I don't see any significant pitting or rust. He told m to pay him what is fair. I was thinking something in the neighborhood of $125.00 to $150.00 would be fair. I would like to have it for my grandson to use this winter for squirrel hunting. Am I too low or high or about right? Thanks for your input.
Edit: I think I will offer him $125.00, I would rather overpay him a bit than hurt his feelings. Also he has an assortment of 2 1/2" old shells. I think he is going to throw in. Since the old piece needs a good cleaning i think I'll do it with my grandson to give him an idea of how to do it. He seems to like dioing that sort of thing. I agreed that these old guns are under appreciated.

As per my Gun Traders Guide (2008), the value would be in the $100. range. 0 -
$100 is about the price I would pay top end. It will make a great squirrel gun. 0 -
It would also make him a nice slug gun. My son started out with a 410 and killed 4 deer before moving up to a rifle. price is about right 100-125 I honestly don't know why these guns don't get more respect. 0 -
And I like your thinking about maintaining a positive relationship with your neighbor!!
My neighbor is a young,(30's)gun guy and family man,(and a carpenter) and when I have needed roof and gutter work, ( tree fell ) I offered a Rom 870 combo in return.
He was happy, I was happy; case closed.0 -
$50. is top dollar for any bolt action shotgun in this area. Just absolutly no interest in them. Single shots are worth more. 0 -
Is this the one with the screw off choke on the end? If so your offer is fair. In the realm of bolt action shotguns, that old Mossberg is slick and accurate. First gun I ever bought and it accounted for more game than I can relate. Neat old gun. 0 -
Several years ago I bought a similar .410 shotgun at a pawn shop for $75.00 out the door. It also needed a good cleaning and whoever put the detachable magazine in it didn't do it right and I think the pawn broker thought it wasn't correct for the firearm. I cleaned it up and shot a few squirrels with it and then sold it at a gun show for $125.00.
That is a fair price and the enjoyemnt you'll get out of it with your grandson will be priceless.

The 183 models will bring in 125. The bigger gauges are cheaper, but the .410's seem to be a little higher. Far as I can tell. 125 is a good buy. 0 -
125 with ammo is more than fair around here...but heck,,whats a few bucks more or less than having a good neighbor.[:)] 0
