Model 1894 for your perusal
I know you fellows are very proud of your purchases, so forgive me but I'd like to share mine. Talk about slippery slopes. Should I worry about getting into yet another great Winchester model? This is my first 1894 purchase after going after mo. 90s, 06s, 62s, and the great 61.
I found this model 1894 at an auction. It was too good to pass up. It has thinning blueing at handling points. A take-down, full magazine, and standard 26-inch barrel. I believe the express sight is special order as is the TD feature. Wood has some minor handling marks but is untouched. The receiver has "worm tracks" but blueing is very good. The 25-35 caliber is a plus; if it were the 32-40 or 38-55 I would have had to pay slightly more.
From Bert's generous and great info re: serial numbers, It appears that the DOM is late 1908 or thereabouts. There are proof marks, so 1908 or later. The brazed brass on iron front sight is also neat.
The SN is 376024

That rifle is begging to be shot!!!!! 0 -
merrbarb,
Very nice rifle indeed. Could you provide some better pictures of both sides of the reciever? Better meaning, better lit, and perhaps a little closer, and better focus.

Gentlemen: Thanks for your comments. I recognize that lighting for photography should improve. Will work on that. 0 -
Your scored a very nice rifle for your 1st M.94, congrats!
Regards to the lighting on those pics, when taking photo's of your guns indoors with direct flash against a white back round. The automatic features (computer) in your camera will "THINK" that the subject is a very bright one and shorten the time that the strobe fires resulting in the darker subject, (the rifle), and it wil be rendered considerably darker than the lighter back round. Either use a neutral back round, such as battleship gray, when photographing your guns indoors with direct flash or go outside in open shade, the results wil be much better.

I saw your rifle when it was on auction, too. It's beautiful! 0 -
Hello Merrill,
That is indeed a very fine looking Take Down Sporting Rifle[^][:p][^].
The official birthdate is November 11th, 1907 (that is the date it went through the Polishing Room and was serialized). Winchester first began proof marking the Model 1894 in July of 1907.0
