Colt 1899 to 1902
I have a Colt D.A. 38 and I can not fined the serial number.
What I thought was the serial number.I was told that it was not it.
So can some one tell me ware to look.

Most likely the Colt .38 Revolver of the 1899-1902 time frame your inquiring about would be the "New Army and Navy Model". It was serial numbered on the bottom surface of the grip.
During this time frame though Colt made at least 3 other revolver models in .38 caliber, that weren't serial numbered on the bottom of the grip. Without quality photos or a specific description of all markings on the revolver your inquiring about, it is difficult to give you specific information.
You might do a GOOGLE image search for a Colt New Army and Navy Revolver to see if this is the one your inquiring about.0
