I have a Colt D.A. 38, 6 inch barrel, rubber grips with "COLT" rounded at the top of the grip. The bottom of the grip (is this called the "bottom grip strap"?) has "US Army Model 1901" & "No. 3724" on it. Can someone tell me the value of this gun? I have pictures, but I can't figure out how to attach them.
I've tried to attach the photos following the instructions, to no avail. Maybe it's to late in the eve.
Any info you can provide woudl be appreciated.0 -

To be blunt, the gun could be collectable or just a relic. That model has a unique action and it needs to be examined by someone that can actually check out the gun in person since pics won't tell much about the condition of the action. And on that model, that's a very big issue.
Even if the gun finish is 100%, if the frame is worn, as many are, it's a wall hanger. And if the action is loose, that puts it in the project category. Not much demand for those since that particular action is very expensive and time consuming to rebuild.
But on the flip side. If the action and other conditions are good, you may have a winner.0 -
How can I find someone that can help me determine the specifics about this gun locally? I'm in NE Ohio. 0 -

There are several ways. Try posting a new thread asking for info on someone that's knowledgable in your area. Most shops will give a free verbal estimate if you bring the gun to them. Or you can always take it where all these folks meet up at, that being one of the large local gun shows. That would be good for a condition check, But beware of any offers due to them wanting to resell and make a profit on it.
If none of these work out, you can contact me and I can give you specifics on what to check and how to check the action. It's really not that hard if you know what to look for. Then you can post pics of it on this forum and having that info would get you a realistic estimate.0
