Light surface rust discovery today
In looking at my bare AK receivers tonigh I find that a few have a light surface problem. No felt pitting, just a powder that rubs off. I pulled them out of storage because I just bought some Birchwood Casey "RIG" gun grease to use on them. Suggestions on what to use to clean them before I coat and put away again?
Thanks guys,

KROIL and then use burlap bag to scrub clean. 0 -
Kroil to clean up, then degrease and apply Rem Oil (teflon) to them. Rem Oil works for months upon months on gun surfaces. It is what I use for storage on everything. Just re-apply a few times per year. 0 -
i hate rust! and kroil works good with the burlap treatment-perry shooter is dead on again, as for preservative from an old school drag race engine builder (myself) , i would use marvel mystery oil to coat with.put it on ,leave it alone and forget about it.short term use birchwood casey -sheath. just an opinion and good luck destroying that rust! 0 -
CLP. Has worked great for me for a long time now. 0 -
You need to watch the humidity level were your guns are stored. get a gauge and when it gets above 70% increase your inspection and oil wipe down interval. Bianchi makes a blue sealing bag for guns but watch you may seal in a high humidity level depending on the conditions. 0 -
Kroil and follow up after a few moments with a rough clean white flannel. You will see the oxidation on the rag. After it comes clean finish with your favorite gun oil. 0
