Dave I have one but in .38spl. It appears the 22 is the identical firearm just under bored for 22 and some under machining of the action metal to make a smaller cavity for the 22. My concern is that this action (1866) with its loading block elevator, originally designed for a medium rimmed cartridge is over kill and would be too heavy for a 22. You are levering a lot of brass metal action to chamber such a small cartridge as a 22. The stroke of the(1866) lever's toggle bolt is excessive for a short cartridge such as a .22 Also consider this, a 1866 action is dependent on correct cartridge length to feed in the elevator block and 22's even todays long rifles vary somewhat such as quick shok and stinger. It does allow for easy removal of a jam by unscrewing the magazine tube end screw, pouring out the spring along with the jammed round. Also with the original barrel under bored to 22 it is going to be heavier than needed. I would consider a lever designed specifically for a .22 such as Marlin 39A, or a Henry. There is a Win lever 22 called yellowboy much more money and is nothing more than a brass receiver of their 9 series lever action.
These guns are made by Uberti and there is a good deal of parts/support available. What we need is a "scaled down" 1866 in 22cal and I do not think it is?
Again I don't even have the 22, lets see what others say.0 -
I can't seem to find any info on the internet about this rifle in .22lr. Is the .22lr a rare caliber for this rifle? 0 -
There is one on another site, xxxsamerica, maybe not popular because if you want a lever reproduction of a 1866, a .22 it can not be. And if you want a smooth quick lever action 22 a 1866 action it can not be. 0
