H&R 999 Early Model Cylinder problem.
Hello!
I have been looking for a cylinder for an early model H&R 999 with no luck. It is the model that has the cylinder release on the right side of the gun, and takes a different cylinder than the later model 999's.
I found a 9-shot .22 cylinder ( I thought) among my old parts that seems like it would work. The only problem is the ring around the front projection has a gap in the ridge that if the cylinder release hook is at that location, the cylinder could fly off.
My problem is that after I finally got the gun in timing and proper indexing and went to test fire it, the cylinder chambers are too small to accept a .22LR cartridge. They mike out at .2085"-.2105" at the rear, and .2185+or-.0040" at the front.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on with this cylinder?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Sound like you don't have the proper cylinder. I would contact e-gunparts.com to see if they have the proper cylinder. 0 -
I think you may have a .22 magnum cylinder as they are bored smaller than a .22lr. .22lr shells will not fit in a .22mag cylinder. 0 -

If your measurements are correct, you may have a reject or unfinished cylinder. Does it look used? been fired??0 -
babun,
It looks used, but in good shape. I sent it off to a gunsmith today to have the cylinder chambers reamed to accept .22LR cartridges.
Thanks for the info!
