Sights on Remington Model 30
A colleague of mine has a Remington Model 30 "Express" that is missing the rear sight (dovetailed on the barrel band). Can anyone tell me what sight would have been installed by the factory and where he should look for a replacement?

Measure the size of the dovetail slot with a dial caliper. More then likely it will be a standard size. Contact the customer service folks at Brownells, or go to their on-line catalog. It might not be identical with the original Remington rear sight but it will suffice for hunting and shooting. To obtain a original Remington rear sight might be difficult and expensive, as they haven't been made for over 70 years. 0 -
Kingfisher1,
I went to both Brownells and Numerich gun-parts (www.e-gunparts.com). Brownells didn't have it listed and Numerich shows it as out of stock.
I suggest to keep googling different variations and you may find what you are looking for. Another place to get in touch with old gun-parts guys is to use the 'contact' on www.remingtonsociety.com.

The original sight wasn't much of a sight - just a V notch on a flat spring base. For a practical hunting sight I would get a Lyman folding rear sight with both a V or U notch selection. The receiver is also drilled and tapped for a rear peep sight. The barrel dovetail for the rear sight is a standard 3/8 inch. 0 -
Thanks to everyone for your advice. Maybe we'll find one one of these days. 0
