National Firearms Co.
I picked up a 12 ga. National Firearms Co. pump, 28 in.modified choke, looks like a 97 winchester or 1917 marlin. Can't find any info on this shotgun, works and shots really well with low brass, have'nt tried high brass yet, don't know if I really want to.[}:)] Does anyone out there know anything about this company[?] I think it was made by Marlin under this company name because it really looks like my model 1917[:D] Any help greatly accepted[:D][:D][:D]

Hi welcome to the forum. Marlin made shotguns marked National Fire Arms Co. for some company in New York State. It was a cheaper version of their own M17. 0 -
There were three shotguns with some form of the name NATIONAL ARM or NATIONAL FIREARMS CO. All were "Trade Brand Name" shotguns. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one made by a major maker (and before 1940) for and was sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun. The first gun was named NATIONAL ARMS CO R. MURDOCK. This one was made by Hopkins & Allen and was sold by a company named National Arms Company located in New Orleans.LA. The second was named NATIONAL ARMS CO and the name was used on two different guns. One gun, a breech loader was made by Crescent Fire Arms Company and the second, a pump action was made by the Marlin Fire Arms Company. There were two sellers, the May Hardware Company of Washington D.C. and Moskowitz & Hurback of Philadelphia,PA. The third gun was named NATIONAL FIREARMS CO and appears to have been by Winchester Repeating Arms Company and according to my notes appears to be the same as Winchester Model 97. 0 -
The letter I got back from Marlin stated that The National Firearms Company was located in Chicago, Illinois. Be careful with the ammo you use the shotgun uses a non-standard length shell. Read the following artical and do the safety checks to determine that the shotgun is safe to shoot.

I have a Marlin 1917, have had it for about 5 yrs, works great and I use it at turkey shoots that use low brass lead shot, been bringing home lots of slab bacon with it. Thanks for the Marlin letter and repair list and instructions. On the National Firearms Co., I haven't fired it and probably won't until I take it apart and do some close inspection. 0
