Could someone please help me identify this Colt D.A. 38? I'm trying to price this gun and I don't know what model it is. If anyone has an idea of a price that would be great. Thanks

Hi Donald. The DA38 involves more than one model. If it has a swing out cylinder, search on the auction side for "colt new army" or "colt 1892". If the cylinder is fixed, search for "colt 1877" or "colt lightning".

Proofhouse.com is a reliable source to look up the year by the serial number. Good luck!

Well, condition is everything. Depends on how tight the action is, barrel condition, surface finish, on and on. But be aware that the new army's don't command as much as other guns in the colt line. they usually range from 200 to 1000, depending on condition.

You really should take it to a local gunsmith and let him see it in person to get a decent estimate. You can always verify the info by posting the results and what he said on here.

But in the case of your gun, I would definitely recommend having it checked by a smith. That's because the early models had a bore size of .375, and a lot of the later ones like yours have a bore size of .357. Even though both bullets were labeled "38 long colt", using the wrong round could be disastrous in that gun. Not to mention the shooter. So be safe and have it looked over and have the bore size checked out by a gunsmith, okay?
